Meghan Markle and Mariah Carey discussed growing up as biracial women on “Archetypes.” The episode titled “The Duality of Diva” found Carey discussing not being able “to fit in” in a black-and-white world. Carey discussed living in all-white neighborhoods and having kids make fun of her because she was poor. Markle commented that seeing Carey as a child had an impact on her because she felt represented by seeing Mariah in the limelight. Meghan says she didn’t know what being “treated like a black woman felt like” until she married Prince Harry. Both women agreed it should be okay to call yourself “mixed” but said society “wants you to choose.” What were some of the struggles with growing up biracial?
