If adopting a pet has been on your mind, you may want to head over to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Menands ASAP.
In a post on Facebook the animal haven is at, what the shelter calls, a 'tipping point' and is overcrowded with animals:
We are so full right now that we are unable to even accept strays coming in from the public. As a shelter that prides itself as being a resource for our community, this breaks our heart. But we know that we need to care for those within our walls first.
There is even a 'No Vacancy' billboard on 787.
The shelter is asking anyone interested in adopting a pet, to please come down. Due to the overcrowding, they have cut adoption rates for animals 6 months or older are $50, while 6 months are younger are $100. These rates will be available at least through the weekend, and the shelter will stay open on Sunday, when it is usually closed.
