NBC will air a live musical TV special featuring Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande performing songs from the film. The event will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles ahead of the release of the sequel, Wicked: For Good, on November 21st. Director Jon M. Chu announced the special during NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation, marking the first time Wicked songs will be showcased on TV in this format. Erivo and Grande, along with surprise guests, will perform songs from both movies in a unique one-night event. Chu also shared a preview of the unreleased trailer for Wicked: For Good and emphasized strict security measures against cellphone use during the event.
