Dollar General has faced a challenging start to 2025, with 27 store closures in January, compared to just five closures in 2024. The company's CEO attributes the slowdown to higher operating costs. Despite the setbacks, Dollar General plans to open 575 new stores in the U.S. and expand into Mexico under new leadership. As of February 15, 2025, there are still over 20,000 Dollar General stores in the U.S., with six states having more than 1,000 locations each.
