Ed Sheeran Says Band Aid 40th Release Didn’t Ask Permission To Use His Vocals

Ed Sheeran revealed that he was not asked for approval to use his vocals in the new Band Aid 40 version of Do They Know It's Christmas? He stated that he would have declined permission if given the choice and shared a post criticizing foreign aid in Africa. The new version combines previous recordings from Band Aid 1984 with voices of artists like George Michael and Harry Styles. Sheeran referenced a post by Fuse ODG, who refused to be part of Band Aid 30, stating that such initiatives perpetuate damaging stereotypes about Africa. The original Band Aid single in 1984 aimed to help charities working with starving children in Ethiopia.
