Former Prince Andrew, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested by Thames Valley Police on suspicion of misconduct in public office, which can lead to a life sentence in the UK. The police did not name him but confirmed the arrest and opened an investigation. Police searched two of his residences in Berkshire and Norfolk. This arrest follows mounting pressure on Andrew over his association with Jeffrey Epstein, which he has denied any wrongdoing. It is rare for a senior royal to be arrested, with the last instance involving Princess Anne in 2002.
