Harry Styles’ Laptop Has Been Dead for Six Years

If you can never find your charger, Harry Styles gets it.

In Rolling Stone’s new Musicians on Musicians issue, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke asked Harry if he travels with a laptop. His answer: “My laptop has been dead for about six years.” He laughed and said he has no idea where the charger is.

So where does he write? On his phone. Harry told Yorke he uses GarageBand and voice memos, the same apps most of us use for grocery lists. He said he likes how a voice note captures an idea in its simplest form. Yorke compared it to a pencil sketch before the real painting.

Not every song starts that way, though. Harry said about two-thirds of his new album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, was built in the studio. The voice-note songs are the more stripped-down ones, like “Coming Up Roses” and the piano tracks.

It fits the album rollout too. Back in January, Billboard reported that fans who signed up on his website got a voice note of Harry softly singing “We belong together.”

So next time your laptop dies, don’t panic. Harry’s been getting by without one since around 2020.
