Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to develop a movie based on the popular collectible toy Labubu, designed by artist Kasing Lung and sold at Pop Mart. Labubu figures gained worldwide popularity in 2024 after Blackpink member Lisa was seen with one. The movie project is in early stages, with no director or writers attached yet, and it's unclear if it will be live-action or animated. Sony's move to create a Labubu film comes as they seek another major franchise following recent box office disappointments. The success of the movie will depend on the creative team hired and the timing of its release in relation to the toy's popularity.
