Global superstar Taylor Swift has had a new honor bestowed upon her with the naming of a new genus of Australian insects in her tribute. The newly described group, named Swiftiephylus, includes four previously unknown insect species linked to Swift and her albums. The insects, part of the Miridae family, live on Australian she-oak plants and are not harmful. The discovery, detailed in a study published in Insect Systematics and Evolution, aims to draw attention to conservation efforts and the vast number of unidentified insect species worldwide. Millions of insect species are still undocumented, and naming them after a well-known figure like Taylor Swift could help raise awareness about their importance.
