If you’ve recently picked up a pack of frosted sugar cookies from Target, you might want to check your pantry. Target has announced a voluntary recall of its Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies after it was discovered that the treats may contain an unexpected — and decidedly inedible — ingredient: wood.
What’s Being Recalled
The recall covers:
-
Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies – 10 count
-
Net Weight: 13.5 oz (383g)
-
UPC: 85239-41250 3
-
Lot Code: 25195 (Best By dates may vary, as they’re set by the retailer once the product is thawed from frozen)
A total of 803 cases (15 packs per case) are affected.
Where They Were Sold
These cookies were shipped to Target distribution centers in Connecticut, Maryland, and Ohio, and stocked in Target stores across a wide swath of states, including:
CT, DC, DE, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MO, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, TN, VA, and VT.
Why the Recall?
The manufacturer, Give and Go Prepared Foods Corp. of Etobicoke, Canada, found the potential for foreign material (wood) in the product. While the recall is Class II — meaning the risk is considered lower than a Class I recall — swallowing wood fragments could still pose a health hazard.
What You Should Do
If you have these cookies at home:
-
Do not eat them
-
Return them to any Target store for a full refund
-
For questions, contact Target Guest Services or check their recall information page once posted
The Bottom Line
While the idea of “wood-fired” might be appealing for pizza, it’s definitely not something you want in your cookies. If you’re a fan of Target’s Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies, hold off for now and check your packaging — your sweet treat might come with an unwelcome crunch.
