Move over, pumpkin spice. There's a new flavor getting attention for 2027, and it's probably not what you'd expect.
Black garlic has been named the Flavor of the Year for 2027, according to the latest Food & Flavor Trends Report from MorganMyers.
Unlike regular garlic, black garlic has a sweeter, milder flavor with a rich, savory taste. It's been popular in upscale restaurants, but now it's making its way into more everyday foods.
And people are curious. According to the report, half of the consumers surveyed said they'd be interested in trying black garlic.
But black garlic isn't the only flavor expected to make waves next year.
Here are the top 10 flavors to watch in 2027:
-
Black garlic
-
Chili crisp
-
Labneh
-
Manuka honey
-
Dates
-
Sumac spice
-
Espresso
-
Masa corn
-
Dragon fruit
-
Koji
Of course, just because a flavor is trendy doesn't mean it's going to stick around. The same report found that only 11% of household grocery decision-makers consider newer flavors regular staples in their kitchens.
So while black garlic may be getting the spotlight for 2027, the bigger question is whether people will actually start buying it.
Have you tried black garlic, or is there another flavor on this list you'd be willing to try?
