Abandoned Albany Motel to be Torn Down

Replaced by affordable apartments

The Red Carpet Inn, which sits empty on Albany's Northern Boulevard, will soon be knocked down.

The three buildings that made up the former motel will be demolished to make way for affordable housing. Ashley Mohl with the Albany Industrial Development Agency tells News 10 the new housing community will consist of two four-story buildings.

This project provides an extraordinary opportunity to remove neighborhood blight and add 185 quality affordable housing units in the City of Albany while increasing revenue to our taxing jurisdictions.

Once New York State approves the funding from the Industrial Development Agency (IDA), work will begin on tearing down the motel. Construction on the new buildings is expected to take about two years.
