A new program has just opened up to help women and children in the Capital Region
Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple announced the opening of a new wing for the Sheriff’s Homeless Improvement Program (SHIP) to house women and children. The wing, located at 800 Old Albany Shaker Road in Albany, will provide housing for homeless individuals and assist them with job and housing searches. The program, which has served 497 homeless people since its inception in November 2020, received a $500,000 grant from Congressman Paul Tonko's office for the renovation of the decommissioned jail into housing. The program is in need of disposable diapers and baby wipes, and donations of clothing, hygiene, and feminine products are welcome
