Albany’s Central Warehouse Spared from Demolition, What Now?

Terry O'Donnell, Albany Broadcasting Co.

The crumbling building temporarily gets a reprieve.

Albany’s iconic Central Warehouse will remain standing—for now. Plans to tear down the long-vacant, decaying 11-story structure near I-787 were underway, but a judge has put a halt to those plans.

The Times Union reports Jackson Demolition Group, the lowest bidder for the project, filed a lawsuit challenging the award of the contract to two Long Island firms that submitted a higher bid. The company alleges that the Albany County public authority overseeing the project acted improperly in its selection process.

In response to the lawsuit, a state Supreme Court justice has paused negotiations with the selected firms until the court can review Jackson Demolition's claims.

It sounds like the eyesore will continue to grace the skyline of Albany for the foreseeable future.
