Road closures and no parking on key streets near Empire State Plaza today
Thousands of runners will take over the streets of downtown Albany this evening for the 18th Annual CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge, kicking off at 6:25pm beginning and ending at the Empire State Plaza. Organized by the Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club in partnership with CDPHP, the 3.5-mile race will draw over 6,000 participants from businesses and organizations across the Capital Region. This year’s event supports Girls on the Run Capital Region and Unity House, two local nonprofits dedicated to empowering youth and supporting vulnerable communities.
To accommodate the race, several road closures and parking restrictions will begin in downtown Albany starting at 4pm and continue into the evening, with some lasting until 11pm Madison Avenue—from Eagle Street to Lake Avenue—will be completely shut down, along with all internal roadways in Washington Park. Between 5pm and 8pm, additional closures will affect major streets including Delaware Avenue, Lark Street, State Street, Robin Street, Dove Street, and South Swan Street, among others. Drivers should expect significant delays and detours throughout the area. In addition, parking restrictions are in effect across much of downtown Albany, particularly along Madison Avenue, Western Avenue, and surrounding side streets. Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the area or use public transit.
Participants and attendees are encouraged to arrive early, carpool, and use public transportation to minimize traffic disruptions. Parking is available under the Empire State Plaza and in the East Lot immediately east of the Plaza.
