New York Courts to Ban Smart Glasses

The ban goes into effect later this month

New York State is set to ban all smart glasses and wearable tech with recording capabilities from every courthouse statewide starting July 20, 2026. The ban covers more than 1,240 courts across all 62 New York counties and includes all types of eyewear equipped with cameras, microphones, or recording technology. Uniformed court officers will screen for these devices at building entrances, and anyone found with them must surrender them to security personnel until they leave the premises. The measure aims to prevent unauthorized recordings of court proceedings, as officials express concerns about the potential misuse of such technology.
