A number of large vessels were sent crashing into a nearby bridge
It was an unforgettable day in the Capital Region that made national news. On June 25th, 2019 ice jams caused chaos on the Hudson River in Troy. The Melee made it all the way down to Albany as a number of boats and barges docked on the Hudson came loose due to rising water on the river.
A total of five vessels broke free and floated unmanned down the Hudson toward Albany. A few boats were stopped by the railroad bridge that connects Albany to Rensselaer County. One of the boats that broke free was the famous Captain JP Cruise ship, a popular summer destination for spring, summer and fall rides up and down the Hudson. The boat suffered considerable damage to the top when it hit the bridge.
