Could the 2026 Winter Olympics Return to Lake Placid?

It was host to the games in 1932 and 1980

Lake Placid, a two-time Winter Olympics host (1932 and 1980), could once again welcome the world to its snowy peaks in 2026. Recent chatter about the Adirondack village potentially hosting some events for the 2026 Winter Games has sparked excitement across the region. While the 2026 Olympics will officially be held in Milan-Cortina, Italy, there’s talk of Lake Placid playing a role in events like bobsledding or skeleton due to its world-class facilities and rich Olympic history.

The Times Union reports that Lake Placid has officially been selected as 'Plan B' for the luge, bobsled and skeleton because the facilities in Italy are 100 years old and are undergoing renovations. If not completed in time, Lake Placid could once again host some of the games.

The Olympics returning to Lake Placid would bring a large economic boom to the North Country. The winter games are scheduled for February 6 to February 22, 2026.
